Metro Bus service operations between Rawalpindi and Islamabad have been halted due to a lawyers’ protest planned for Monday.

Various legal associations are protesting in Islamabad against the Judicial Commission of Pakistan’s (JCP) session to select eight Supreme Court judges.

The Metro Bus will not operate between Faiz Ahmed Faiz station and the Secretariat, nor from Rawalpindi Saddar Station to Faiz Ahmed Faiz station. The decision to curtail service is based on security concerns.

Today, the JCP, chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, is scheduled to discuss the appointment of eight judges to the Supreme Court amid debates on delaying the session pending litigation concerning the 26th Constitutional Amendment.

The JCP will likely nominate two judges from the Islamabad and Sindh High Courts and one from the Balochistan and Peshawar High Courts.
