The Met Gala, also known as the Costume Institute Benefit, is set to dazzle again on May 6 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City with its blend of high fashion and celebrity glamour.
The premier fashion event, traditionally held on the first Monday in May, serves as an annual fundraiser for the museum’s Costume Institute, now known as the Anna Wintour Costume Center in tribute to Vogue’s longstanding editor-in-chief.
2024 Theme: “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”
This year’s theme, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” invites attendees to explore fashion’s potential to revive and inspire. Complementing the theme, the dress code for 2024, titled “The Garden of Time,” is inspired by J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story. Guests are expected to arrive in botanical and floral-inspired attire, reflecting the narrative’s lush imagery.
The corresponding exhibition will feature about 250 unique pieces from the Costume Institute’s archive, including masterpieces from renowned designers like Schiaparelli and Dior. The display is organized into three segments: Land, Sea, and Sky, each symbolizing different aspects of natural resources and sustainability in fashion.
