In a major announcement, Inter Miami CF has confirmed that Lionel Messi will stay with the club and has signed a new contract that will keep him in Major League Soccer until 2028.

The deal is a huge boost for the team, its fans, and the entire North American league. At 38, Messi remains a dominant force and is hungry for more success.

Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham expressed his delight. He stated that the club’s vision was always to bring the best players to Miami. “He’s still as committed as he’s ever been, and he still wants to win,” Beckham said.

Messi had previously indicated that Inter Miami would be the last club of his career. While he has not set a retirement date, he has made it clear that his age will not limit his ambitions.

Messi’s influence on the pitch has been immediate. In the 2024 season, he led the entire MLS with 29 goals. His performance helped Inter Miami finish third in the Eastern Conference and qualify for the playoffs.

His impact off the pitch has been even greater. Since his arrival in 2023, he has sparked unprecedented global interest in the league. This is a crucial moment for soccer in North America, with the 2026 World Cup being hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico.

According to Forbes, Inter Miami’s valuation has doubled since 2022 to $1.2 billion, making them the second-most-valuable team in MLS.

MLS Commissioner Don Garber called Messi’s decision to join the league a historic “turning point.” “Since then, we’ve witnessed something truly historic: the greatest player of all time bringing global attention to our league,” Garber stated.

Messi’s contract extension ensures his transformative presence will continue to shape the sport’s growth in the region for years to come.
