Floyd Mayweather, 50, appears poised to return to the ring this year. Since retiring, he has kept active through high-profile exhibition matches against opponents like Logan Paul and John Gotti III. His competitive spirit remains undiminished, and rumours suggest content creator and Prime co-founder KSI could be his next opponent.
Negotiating a match with Mayweather Jr. seems straightforward if the financial incentive is substantial. His team will likely approve a 2025 fight if the terms are favourable.
Floyd’s uncle, Jeff Mayweather, shared some insights in a Fred Talks Fighting interview about the potential for another exhibition match: “I have no idea. We don’t really talk much, so I don’t know what’s going on with him,” he said. During the interview, the conversation turned to KSI as a potential opponent, and Jeff remarked, “That’s a fight that could possibly happen.”
The potential match-up between KSI and Mayweather carries significant financial implications. Their rivalry traces back to 2022, when Mayweather defeated Deji, KSI’s younger brother, in a match that left KSI eager for revenge.
In a separate discussion with SunSport, Jeff Mayweather expressed confidence in Floyd’s unmatched abilities, dismissing any social media influencer’s chances against him: “There is no YouTube fighter on the planet that can beat Floyd…He’s a fighter, he still runs, he’s still in the gym occasionally. It’s been his life. It’s ingrained in him,” he stated.
While Mayweather’s last exhibition bout was against John Gotti III in August of the previous year, and KSI has not fought since his defeat to Tommy Fury in October 2023, the lure of a substantial purse could motivate both to return. This is particularly true for Mayweather, who might begin negotiations for an exhibition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, early in the year.
