Chuck Norris’ death on March 19, 2026, has left fans worldwide mourning the loss of a martial arts legend and cultural icon. The actor and martial artist passed away peacefully at age 86, surrounded by family, his loved ones announced on Instagram.

Carlos Ray Norris was born on March 10, 1940, in Ryan, Oklahoma. He joined the U.S. Air Force in his late teens, where exposure to Korean martial arts ignited a lifelong passion that would define both his career and enduring legacy.

While stationed in South Korea, Norris earned black belts in multiple disciplines and won national karate championships during the 1960s, establishing himself as a respected fighter and instructor before Hollywood came calling.

From Bruce Lee to Walker, Texas Ranger: A Lasting Legacy

Norris’s breakthrough came after meeting Bruce Lee. Their legendary battle in the 1972 film The Way of the Dragon cemented his reputation as a martial arts star and opened the door to decades of action film roles.

He starred in notable films including Missing in Action (1984), The Delta Force (1986), and Code of Silence (1985). He later became a household name as the disciplined lawman Cordell Walker on the long-running CBS series Walker, Texas Ranger (1993–2001), known for his steely determination and signature roundhouse kicks.

Encouraged by Steve McQueen early in his career, Norris’s roles in films like Lone Wolf McQuade solidified him as an enduring figure in action cinema.

Family Statement: ‘He Was the Heart of Our Family’

“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning,” the family said via Instagram. “While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.”

The statement continued: “To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family.”

The family noted that Norris had been hospitalised in Hawaii on March 18, 2026, and expressed gratitude for the prayers and support received from fans. They requested privacy during their time of grief.

In later life, Norris continued to promote martial arts and fitness through his schools and programs. His persona became a staple of popular culture, with millions recognising him as a symbol of toughness, discipline, and perseverance.

His family’s tribute captured his dual legacy: “He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world.”

Norris’s passing marks the end of an era for martial arts cinema and action entertainment. Fans and fellow performers have begun sharing tributes to a man who, as his family noted, viewed his supporters not merely as fans but as friends
