May 12 carnage accused remanded to police custody

Abdul Rafique alias Kaein, an accused arrested by Rangers for his involvement in May 12, 2007 carnage, has been handed over to the paramilitary troops on a 90-day remand.

The Rangers presented the accused in a local Anti-Terrorism Court where the judge accepted the law-enforcers’ application and remanded him to Rangers custody for three months.

Sources said Abdul Rafique is a grade-18 officer of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The Rangers have also officially informed the bank about his criminal activities.

A Special Taskforce of the Rangers arrested the accused yestersday from Mehmood Abad area of the city that witnessed riots on May 12, 2007 in which over 50 people were killed upon the arrival in town of the then Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
