Security agencies arrested seven suspects from Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in the Maulana Idrees killing investigation. CCTV footage traced the alleged gunman’s escape route.
Investigators said they detained the suspects during coordinated operations in the Mardan region. They started questioning them to identify the network behind the attack.
Officials said teams are using geofencing across sensitive areas of Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera. The goal is to track the attackers’ movements and identify possible facilitators.
Investigators are also profiling suspicious individuals who were present near the crime scene when Maulana Sheikh Idrees was targeted.
Sources said authorities traced the alleged target killer’s escape route after obtaining CCTV footage from multiple points.
The footage showed the suspect fleeing on a motorcycle and reaching Chamkani. Then another CCTV camera captured him on Kohat Road.
Investigators believe the suspect later used the service road toward Charsadda. He may have crossed into the district shortly after 5:30 am.
Officials said information from the seven suspects, CCTV footage and digital forensic work had moved the investigation closer to identifying and arresting the central suspect in the Maulana Muhammad Idrees murder case.
