MELBOURNE, Australia: The Massive Attack Melbourne show featured a Palestinian flag and Gaza-focused visuals on August 11. The British band performed at Rod Laver Arena in Victoria’s capital.
Noise11 said Robert “3D” Del Naja and Grant “Daddy G” Marshall placed Gaza within the concert’s political presentation. Screens also addressed war, surveillance, corporate power and inequality.
Australian Musician reported that the crowd chanted “Free Palestine” during “Safe From Harm.” The outlet also described imagery about emergency workers in Gaza and the global arms industry.
Promoter Frontier Touring listed Melbourne as the final date of Massive Attack’s three-show Australian tour. The visit marked the group’s first Australian performances since 2010.

The Melbourne display followed the band’s July 29 concert at Singapore’s Star Theatre. Singapore police investigated two members for unfurling a Palestinian flag and supporting a political cause.

Authorities issued stern warnings and barred both musicians from returning. The Associated Press identified them from concert footage as Del Naja and Marshall.
Massive Attack responded through Instagram on August 2. The band expressed disappointment with the decision. It defended the display as an act of solidarity with Palestinians.
