Colombian influencer Maria Alejandra Esquin, 25, with 1 million followers on Instagram and TikTok, widely known as ‘Baby Demoni’ for her distinctive forked tongue and bold persona, was found dead in her home.

Influencer Yina Calderon, a close friend and renowned DJ, confirmed the news in viral social media videos, igniting a heated debate over whether Esquin’s death was suicide or murder.

Calderon claimed Esquin argued with her boyfriend, who later reported she had hanged herself. “Hospital tests showed signs of suffocation; it’s strange,” Calderon said. “I hope this doesn’t go unpunished.” Her emotional posts, shared late Wednesday, fueled speculation of foul play, drawing comparisons to high-profile influencer controversies.

Juliana Calderon, Esquin’s sister and friend, offered a different narrative on TikTok. She said Esquin sent a “disturbing message” 15 minutes after Juliana left. Returning quickly, Juliana found Esquin “hurting herself.” The boyfriend, supported by neighbours, rushed her to a hospital. He insists it was suicide, denying murder allegations and claiming investigations back his account. He reported receiving threats and plans to sue Calderon for spreading “lies.”

‘Baby Demoni’s Rise to Fame

Esquin, from Medellín, Colombia, rose to fame through vibrant dance and lifestyle content, amplified by her unique forked tongue surgery in 2024, a trend among bold influencers. Her edgy style and authenticity resonated with fans, making her a Latin American social media star.

No official police confirmation of an investigation exists, but the case grips Colombia. Fans mourn on social platforms, demanding clarity. The conflicting accounts raise questions about domestic safety and influencer pressures.

‘Baby Demoni’s’ death highlights the vulnerabilities of public figures and fuels discussions on mental health and violence. The investigation’s outcome could set precedents.
