A Malir jail escape triggered a search after Naveed alias Polka, an inmate accused in a kidnapping and murder case, went missing from District Jail Malir, police sources said.
Police sources said jail staff discovered the disappearance during a routine head count after a ceremony inside the prison. The inmate had already left the facility by the time officials found one prisoner missing.
Jauharabad Police had arrested Naveed a few days earlier in a case involving the kidnapping and murder of businessman Rehan. Police sources said his arrest led investigators to the recovery of the hostage’s body.

Jail authorities had increased security at the facility after an earlier prisoner escape in 2025. The administration also claimed it had installed a comprehensive CCTV camera network, yet Naveed still left the prison undetected.
The jail administration searched the premises for more than three hours after discovering the escape. Police sources said officials had not found information about Naveed’s whereabouts during that search.
The source report said Naveed had a criminal history and had previously faced arrest in the high-profile murder case of journalist Wali Khan Babar. Authorities later released him in that case due to a lack of evidence.
Top prison officials, including the Inspector General of Prisons, the Deputy Inspector General and Malir jail authorities, avoided media questions after the escape. Officials did not explain how the inmate left the prison.
