Singer Lionel Richie was hospitalised in intensive care in St. Louis after performing Saturday night, with doctors evaluating him for possible mild dehydration, according to TMZ.
The 77-year-old entered a local hospital following his August 29 performance at The Muny in Forest Park. Sources told TMZ the admission was precautionary and that Richie hoped to be discharged Tuesday.
Witnesses at the concert said Richie appeared to struggle near the end of the performance. During his final song, “All Night Long,” he asked his team for a chair and completed the number while seated.
The concert was the opening stop of Richie’s current “Sing a Song All Night Long” tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. A representative for Richie had not publicly commented on the latest hospitalisation.
The incident follows another health scare during the tour in June. Richie was taken to hospital after becoming unwell while performing in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he told the audience he felt dizzy and strange before ending the show early.
Paramedics treated him backstage before taking him to hospital by ambulance. His team later attributed that episode to dehydration.
The June incident forced Richie to postpone concerts in Chicago and Columbus before he returned to the stage in Pittsburgh on June 30.

Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire also postponed an August 6 San Francisco concert after drummer John Paris experienced a separate medical emergency. Richie’s next scheduled performance is September 26 in San Francisco.
