The Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed Punjab government to public Justice Baqir Najafi’s report on Model Town incident with in 30 days.
The full bench of the LHC has rejected Punjab government’s appeal challenging a single bench’s decision to release the report.
The court has now directed Punjab government to release the report within 30 days, and also provide the same to Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).
The court has observed that the report will not affect the ongoing trial.
The three-member full bench, under Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh, had reserved the decision on the government’s appeal on November 24.
The Punjab government had filed an intra-court appeal against the September 21 decision of a single-bench ordering the release of the inquiry report, authored by LHC Justice Baqar Najafi.
Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi had on September 21 ordered the government to release the inquiry report compiled by Justice Baqir Najafi who handed it over to the Punjab chief secretary in 2014. But, the government has withheld the probe ever since
