The Lahore High Court earlier today acquitted death row prisoner Zameer Ahmed for lack of evidence in a murder case.
A two-member bench of the LHC headed by Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi heard the petition.
The court was informed that accused Zameer Ahmed was handed the death penalty by a trial court in an 8-year-old girl’s murder case, but there was a clear contradiction in the post-mortem report and statements of the witnesses.
State persecutor argued that the accused had murdered a minor girl, and its evidence is available.
After hearing both arguments, the bench ordered the accused released for lack of evidence and declared the trial court’s verdict null and void.
