Lahore Electric Supply Company suspended three officials after Defence Minister Khawaja Asif alleged an Rs80,000 bribe was paid for a transformer replacement.
The executive engineer of LESCO’s Phool Nagar Division said two linemen and one line superintendent were suspended after the complaint.
The official said a 200-kilowatt transformer had burnt out, and a 100-kilowatt transformer was being installed in its place.
He claimed Asif’s coordinator and villagers stopped the LESCO team from completing the installation. The XEN said he later visited the village but received no evidence that money had been paid to LESCO employees.
LESCO sources claimed a private individual collected money from villagers. They said the person had no connection with the power utility.
