The Lahore High Court (LHC) reinstated Lt. Gen. Munir Afsar as Chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), temporarily halting a previous ruling that nullified his appointment.

A two-member bench, presided over by Justice Chaudhary Muhammad Iqbal, issued this decision during an intra-court appeal that contested the NADRA chairman’s removal.

This appeal contested a notification from the caretaker government concerning the chairman’s appointment.

The court sought clarification on the exact notification under challenge in the session.

The public advocate specified that only the caretaker government’s notification was under dispute, excluding any new regulations related to such appointments.

Justice Asim Hafeez of the Lahore High Court had earlier voided the appointment of Lt. Gen. Munir Afsar.

However, the current judgment from the two-member bench has provisionally restored Afsar to his role until further review.

The petitioner urged that the single bench’s decision to remove the Chairman of NADRA be reversed, enabling him to return to his responsibilities.
