PESHAWAR, KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA: A KP heavy rain alert warned 35 districts of thunderstorms and downpours from August 17 to 21, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast rain across northern, central and southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the five-day period, PDMA said in an alert reported by the Associated Press of Pakistan.
Northern districts under alert include Upper and Lower Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Buner, Shangla, Malakand and Bajaur. Upper and Lower Kohistan, Kolai Palas, Battagram, Torghar, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Haripur are also covered.
The warning also covers Mardan, Swabi, Khyber, Mohmand, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Kohat, Kurram, Hangu and Orakzai.
PDMA forecast heavier downpours in Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan and Tank on August 20 and 21. North and South Waziristan face the same two-day warning.

Rescue 1122 Director General Shah Fahad urged residents to avoid swimming in rivers and streams. He also advised against unnecessary travel, hiking and trekking because of the landslide risk.
Authorities told residents to stay away from electricity poles, signboards, steep slopes and unfinished structures during thunderstorms. They also warned people not to cross flooded roads, areas or bridges.
