Kimberly Van Der Beek’s Instagram tribute marked three months since the death of her husband, actor James Van Der Beek, with his widow saying the “reality is settling in.”
Kimberly shared the post on Tuesday, May 12, reflecting on the grief she and the couple’s six children have faced since the “Dawson’s Creek” star’s death.
“To say I’m heartbroken is a severe understatement,” Kimberly wrote, adding that the “comforts of shock” had worn off and that she missed him.
Kimberly said the family continued to feel his presence and thanked supporters for the love shown since his death. She said the support had held the family “in the most beautiful of ways.”
The Instagram post included family photos from the final months Kimberly and the children spent with James.
James and Kimberly married in 2010 and shared six children: Olivia, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, Joshua and Jeremiah.
James Van Der Beek died on February 11, 2026, at age 48 after colorectal cancer, which he publicly disclosed in 2024 after a diagnosis the previous year.
