Karachi, Sindh: Police arrested eight suspects, including a serving excise inspector, in a Karachi kidnapping gang case involving Rs150,000 ransom, officials said.
East Zone’s Brigade Police arrested the suspects during an operation against a gang wanted in several short-term kidnapping cases, according to police.
Police said the suspects allegedly kidnapped a citizen and collected Rs150,000 for his release. Officials said the gang had allegedly abducted several citizens in the past and extorted ransom money.
Investigators said the accused used police uniforms during the crimes to deceive victims. During the raid, four suspects, including the excise inspector, were found wearing official uniforms.

Authorities recovered four pistols and a vehicle from the suspects. Police said East Zone Police had laid a trap to arrest the gang.
Cases have been registered against the accused, while further investigation is underway. Police identified the arrested suspects as Inspector Hamid, Irfan, Shahzaib, Shehryar, Amir, Afaq, Jamshed and Zain.
The arrests come after Karachi Police removed 11 Station House Officers from their posts over pending internal inquiries.
