Increasing incidents of theft and robbery nationwide have highlighted significant lapses in both administrative governance and police efficacy, further compounded by the involvement of security personnel.
According to reliable sources, an individual identified as Zahid, who was later confirmed to be an officer with the Rangers, perpetrated a robbery at a culinary centre in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of Karachi. Disguised in his official uniform, Zahid executed the crime promptly, which was followed by police action, leading to his arrest at his residence. During the raid, authorities recovered cash and stolen items, totalling 1.8 million rupees.
The robbery, which took place yesterday, was captured on CCTV. The footage, which subsequently went viral on social media, shows Zahid, armed and in uniform, orchestrating the robbery. Following the event, Mr Adil, the owner of the culinary centre, lodged a formal complaint at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station, leading to Zahid’s apprehension.
Police sources disclosed that Zahid had misused his uniform for personal gain and noted his familial ties to Adil, against whom departmental proceedings have been initiated. It was further revealed that Zahid had been on a month’s leave from his duties at the time of the incident and has since been detained for further legal action.
Investigations also uncovered that Adil was acquainted with Zahid before the robbery and was embroiled in an ongoing financial dispute. Zahid is accused of forcibly taking 1.8 million rupees along with other valuables from Adil, after which he fled, leaving Adil in the Surjani Town area.
SSP East Dr. Farukh Rizwan has taken official notice of the case, prioritizing the rapid apprehension of the involved parties. The incident has raised serious concerns about security protocols and the integrity of personnel entrusted with public safety.”
