Renowned playback singer Kalpana Raghavendar, found unconscious at her Hyderabad home on March 5, 2025, has quashed rumors of a suicide attempt.

Speaking to police, she blamed an accidental overdose of insomnia pills—sparked by a heated argument with her daughter per an IANS report on March 6. The Kalpana Raghavendar overdose incident stirred buzz, but the artist and her family insist it’s a misunderstanding.

Kalpana told authorities the trouble brewed on March 3 during a clash with her daughter, Daya Prasad, over schooling. “I wanted Daya to study in Hyderabad—she refused,” she explained. Sleepless and stressed, Kalpana took eight sleeping pills, then ten more when rest eluded her. “I fell unconscious—I don’t recall what followed,” she said. Her husband, Prasad, grew alarmed when calls went unanswered, alerting neighbors who summoned police by 5 PM.

Officers arrived to a locked apartment, spotting Kalpana unresponsive through a kitchen window. They rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she’s now stable. Daya, addressing the press via Hindustan Times, echoed her mother’s denial: “It’s not suicide—just a slight overdose of prescribed insomnia meds due to life stress. Mom’s fine, back soon.” The Kalpana Raghavendar overdose tale, fueled by social media, quickly unraveled as a health hiccup, not a tragedy.

Known for hits like Navamoorthulainatti and Pogiren, Kalpana’s legacy in Indian music shines bright. This scare tied to a mother-daughter spat—won’t dim her star.
