The Kansas City Chiefs are among several teams interested in bringing back free-agent receiver Justin Watson, Kansas City Star reporter Pete Sweeney said Friday.
Kansas City is seeking receiving depth after injuries to Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton. Rice has a hamstring injury, while Thornton has sustained an ankle injury.
Houston Texans released Watson on August 30, leaving the 30-year-old available to sign with another team.
Watson previously spent three seasons with Kansas City, from 2022 to 2024. He worked with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid during that spell and knows the team’s offensive system.
Across his Chiefs tenure, Watson recorded 64 receptions for 1,064 receiving yards.
A three-time Super Bowl champion, Watson won a title with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before helping Kansas City win two straight championships.
A calf injury interrupted his Houston spell in the 2025 season. He returned for the Texans’ regular-season finale and played on special teams in the playoffs.

Kansas City opened the 2026 National Football League (NFL) season 4-0. Those victories came against the Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins and Las Vegas Raiders.
That start put the Chiefs at the top of the American Football Conference (AFC) West.
