Justice Munib Akhtar has recused himself from the Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, reviewing the Article 63-A plea.

The bench initially consisted of five members: CJP Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Munib Akhtar, Aminuddin Khan, Jamal Khan Mandokhail, and Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel.

Justice Akhtar formally notified the Supreme Court Registrar of his decision through a letter outlining his reasons and expressing concerns about the reconstitution of the Practicing and Procedure Committee.

Consequently, a four-member bench, without Justice Munib, proceeded with the case under the leadership of Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa. During the session, Chief Justice Isa publicly read the final paragraph of Justice Akhtar’s letter and decided against including the letter in the court record. Despite an invitation from Chief Justice Isa to rejoin the bench, Justice Akhtar abstained.

The hearing has been adjourned until the following day.
