At the Dreamville Festival in North Carolina, J. Cole expressed regret over his recent diss track targeting Kendrick Lamar, marking a moment of introspection and vulnerability.

Cole shared with the audience his discomfort with the discord, emphasizing how it disturbed his peace.

The discord traces back to an effort by Drake to showcase unity in the hip-hop community through his track “First Person Shooter,” which referred to himself, Cole, and Lamar as the genre’s leading figures. However, Lamar’s veiled claims of supremacy in an uncredited verse reignited tensions, prompting Cole to release “7 Minute Drill” in retaliation—a decision he would soon question.

Cole reflected on the specific content of his track “Might Delete Later,” expressing dissatisfaction with a part he now deems regrettable. This acknowledgement of misjudgment illustrates Cole’s internal conflict over engaging in the feud, which he recognizes as contrary to his values.

He openly hopes that Lamar harbours no ill feelings and extends an olive branch, indicating his readiness to accept the consequences and his continued respect for Lamar’s craft.

This episode underscores the delicate balance artists must navigate between competitive spirit and mutual respect in the hip-hop community. Cole’s candid admission highlights the personal growth and the value of peace over rivalry, offering a poignant lesson on the repercussions of public disputes in the music industry.
