Islamabad Police’s ASP Shehr Bano Naqvi announced new initiatives to enhance citizen protection and extend help to voiceless animals.

In a video statement, Naqvi outlined the introduction of an Animal Rescue Program, holding centres for orphans, and protection programs for transgender individuals. She encouraged public support to ensure the success of these initiatives.

The statement generated diverse reactions on social media. Former Federal Minister Shireen Mazari critiqued the language choice, suggesting that the use of English pointed to an elite target audience rather than the general public.

Mazari emphasized that the primary role of the police is to uphold the law and criticized the existing police misconduct, including unlawful home entries and violence, which undermines public safety and trust.

Police has become a Jest in Pakistan, using female officers as models is just another low for Police Service… brutality, immorality and corruption have become new normal for Police…. https://t.co/2D4c0YQyS8

Similarly, former Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry commented on the police’s image, labelling it as a joke that misuses its female officers as models and highlighting the persistent issues of brutality, misconduct, and corruption within the force.
