ISLAMABAD: Authorities plan to suspend mobile phone and internet services in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Attock on September 26 and 27, 2026.
Separately, the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) announced closures on major roads leading towards the capital. The restrictions begin on the evening of September 23, 2026, and cover both directions at these locations:
- M-1 motorway: Islamabad Toll Plaza to Chachh Interchange.
- M-14 motorway: Hakla to Kundal.
- Grand Trunk Road (N-5): Attock Khurd.
The planned connectivity restrictions cover the federal capital and neighbouring areas in Punjab. The road closures affect specified sections of the highways.

The mobile and internet suspension is part of security preparations for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) proposed long march. A high-level security meeting discussed closing motorways and other routes, along with arrangements to maintain law and order.
Protest caravans led by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister are expected to reach Islamabad on September 27, 2026.
