Elon Musk, entrepreneur and CEO of SpaceX, recently engaged in a conversation on X (previously Twitter) about former US President Donald Trump’s potential return to the platform.
In October 2022, Musk acquired X for $44 billion, spreading discussion about its future direction and policies.
A discussion on X highlighted a user’s suggestion that “it’s time” for Trump to return. Trump’s access to the platform had been revoked following the January 6, 2021, Capitol Hill riots, fueled by baseless claims of electoral fraud. Under Musk’s tenure, the decision to reinstate Trump’s account in November 2022. Trump marked his return by posting his mugshot with the caption, “Election Interference, Never Surrender!”
Musk responded with a “Yes” on Wednesday when asked about Trump’s return to X.
This interaction occurs amidst reports of Musk and Trump engaging in discussions beyond the public eye. The Washington Post noted Trump’s proposition to Musk to purchase his social media venture, Truth Social, last summer, a deal which did not materialize.
Further revelations from The New York Times indicated a private meeting between the two, hinting at financial challenges faced by Trump in his political endeavours, particularly in comparison to Democratic fundraising efforts.
Despite speculation that Musk would financially support Trump’s re-election bid, the Tesla CEO clarified on X that he intends to remain neutral, stating he is “not donating money to either candidate for US President.”
