TEHRAN: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said on Sunday that it captured a second US autonomous underwater vehicle in the Strait of Hormuz.
The force identified the vessel as a Remus 600. It said the operation used intelligence capabilities and electronic warfare.
IRGC officials accused the underwater vehicle of conducting espionage in the strategic waterway. However, that allegation has not been independently verified.
Iranian authorities said the drone was now in IRGC custody. Specialists were working to retrieve information stored on the system.

Meanwhile, an IRGC spokesman said Iran planned to study the captured technology. Iranian media also identified the vehicle as an Mk 18 Mod 2 Kingfish variant.
The IRGC Navy also repeated its position that the Strait of Hormuz remained closed to unauthorised traffic. It said it would respond to movements it considered dangerous.
Earlier this month, the force separately claimed it had captured a Dive-LD autonomous underwater vehicle near the strait entrance.
Iranian reporting identified that system as a platform developed by US defence company Anduril Industries. However, US authorities had not publicly confirmed the latest Remus 600 seizure.
