Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said Wednesday it launched a drone attack on the United States Fifth Fleet in Bahrain in response to recent U.S. strikes in southern Iran.
The IRGC made the claim in a statement carried by Iranian state media. It described the action as retaliation for U.S. military operations on Iranian territory.
The group also warned that heavier measures could follow if U.S. military activity in the region continues.
The IRGC said U.S. strikes hit several locations in southern Iran, including Jask, Sirik and Qeshm Island.
It said the strikes damaged a telecommunications tower and destroyed two water tanks in Sirik’s Bemani district. The IRGC said clashes remained ongoing.
