MUSCAT: Strait of Hormuz talks brought Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to Oman on Saturday for consultations on shipping arrangements through the strategic waterway, Iranian state media reported.

Tasnim news agency said Araghchi arrived in the Omani capital, Muscat, for talks with Omani officials on mechanisms to ensure the safe passage of vessels.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the visit continued consultations between Tehran and Muscat that had been underway for the past one or two months, the Oman Observer reported.

Baghaei said Iran maintained a sovereign right to help manage the Strait of Hormuz to keep it safe and secure.

The talks came as Washington pressed Tehran to publicly say the Strait of Hormuz remains open to international shipping and that Iran will not attack commercial vessels, AP reported.

Baghaei accused the United States of violating the memorandum of understanding by carrying out airstrikes and revoking exemptions on Iranian oil exports.

Pakistan also called for restraint. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian by phone that both sides should restore regional peace and uphold commitments under the US-Iran MoU.

Pakistan has served as a key facilitator in talks between Washington and Tehran.
