TEHRAN, Iran: An Iran-US soldier bounty reportedly offers the equivalent of USD 30,000 for killing or capturing American military personnel, according to Iranian media.

According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Army Chief Amir Hatami announced the reported plan on Sunday. The report also said that women would be eligible for twice the stated reward. The reported bounty comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States.

Hardline Iranian newspapers gave prominent front-page treatment Monday to an army chief’s announcement of cash rewards for killing or capturing US military personnel.

Hardline newspapers Hamshahri and Kayhan also promoted the reported reward on their front pages. The supplied material says the coverage used prominent imagery and confrontational language toward US forces.

The announcement comes amid continued military tensions between Tehran and Washington. Both sides have traded fire sporadically after earlier ceasefire and peace efforts broke down.

No known US ground force deployment is under way inside Iran. It says fighting has centred mainly in southern Iran and around the Strait of Hormuz.
