TEHRAN: Iran’s army plans to begin military training for civilian volunteers on Sunday at three facilities in the capital, its deputy for training and education, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Alian-Nejad, said.
Personnel from the army’s four branches would provide instruction at designated field garrisons, Alian-Nejad said. Volunteers would receive basic training before progressing to more advanced courses.
The army describes the programs as preparation for national defence. Its announcement concerns volunteers rather than a change to compulsory military service.
Separately, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until Washington met Tehran’s seven conditions.

He linked those demands to the Islamabad Memorandum. Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei described continuing differences over negotiations.
He said Washington prioritised nuclear terms, while Tehran sought sanctions relief, an end to military aggression and resolution of the maritime blockade.
