TEHRAN: Iranian lawmaker Mojtaba Zarei said Saturday that Iran’s military could strike locations beyond regional borders if adversaries used them to launch attacks against the country.
Zarei, a member of parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, described the policy as part of Iran’s new defence doctrine.
He said any location used to launch an attack against Iran could become a target for retaliation. His remarks followed instructions from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei to senior military commanders.
Khamenei ordered the armed forces to prepare immediate responses to potential threats without geographical restrictions, according to Iranian state media.

He also directed commanders to update their target lists to include American and Israeli assets. Iran’s supreme leader called for stronger military intelligence and greater use of modern defence technology.
He warned that Iran would determine the timing and conditions for ending hostilities if its enemies launched further attacks.

Zarei’s comments outlined a policy of wider retaliation but did not identify specific targets or announce a military operation.
