TEHRAN, Iran: Iran marriage registrations fell 51.6% year on year during the opening month of the conflict that began February 28, reversing a wartime increase recorded in June 2025.

The figures appeared in an Iranian Parliament Research Centre report comparing marriage data from two conflicts involving the Middle Eastern country, according to the Financial Tribune.

Iran registered 21,684 marriages during the 12-day war from June 13 to June 24, 2025. That total was 20.9% higher than during the comparable period in 2024, the report found.

Registrations increased across most provinces during the shorter conflict. Tehran, Kurdistan, and Sistan and Baluchestan were the exceptions.

Tehran recorded 2,521 marriages, down 5.7% from 2,672 in the comparison period. Nationwide registrations reached 3,681 on June 14, 2025, which coincided with Eid al-Ghadir.

The pattern changed during Esfand 1404, covering February and March 2026, when registrations dropped 51.6% from a year earlier.

Researchers cited the conflict’s psychological impact, expanding attacks and its overlap with Ramadan as possible factors.

The decline later narrowed. Iran recorded 51,474 marriages between March 21 and May 5, 2026, compared with 55,024 during the corresponding 2025 period, a decrease of 6.5%.

The parliamentary report said the partial recovery indicated that many families resumed postponed plans during Nowruz and subsequent weeks.

It recommended continued marriage loans, counselling services, affordable ceremonies and housing assistance during national crises.
