TEHRAN: Iran said it would not soften the terms of its seven-day Hormuz plan after US President Donald Trump rejected the offer, while Tehran awaited a formal reply through mediators.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran had heard Trump’s public comments but had received no definitive US response through Qatar and Pakistan.
Araghchi said Iran’s conditions remained unchanged and that any progress on reopening the Strait of Hormuz depended on those terms being met.
He argued that negotiations were the only way to resolve the dispute. “They made a proposal but I rejected it,” Trump told reporters on Saturday before leaving the White House.
A person familiar with the negotiations told Bloomberg that the two sides had discussed an arrangement under which Tehran would reopen the strait while Washington lifted its blockade of Iranian ports.

The framework resembled a memorandum of understanding reached by the United States and Iran in June. The White House said that agreement included provisions covering commercial navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
