The long-rumoured Apple iPhone Fold is reportedly moving closer to reality. Supply chain sources indicate the device has now entered its final engineering and pre-production phase. This development follows years of intense industry speculation about Apple’s first foldable iPhone.

Reports highlight the device’s potential unique display technology. Industry insiders suggest Apple may have engineered a solution to eliminate the visible crease. This crease remains a common issue in competitors’ current foldable smartphones.

The iPhone Fold is also expected to utilise premium materials and advanced cooling systems. Analysts anticipate a build quality and thermal management approach similar to the high-end iPhone 17 Pro models.

According to the Economic Daily News, Apple has finalised the design of the foldable iPhone. The company is now fine-tuning final details with its manufacturing partners, moving beyond initial experimentation.

When unfolded the 2026 iPhone foldable will apparently be ~4.8mm thin

This progress points toward a potential launch by late 2026. Apple has reportedly been developing the device for over 5 years, with trial production already underway. Major suppliers are now stockpiling key components in anticipation of formal orders.

Analysts project ambitious first-year sales. They estimate Apple could ship 7 to 9 million units, capturing 30-40% of the global foldable market. This would position Apple to immediately surpass current leaders like Samsung, Huawei, and Motorola.

A robust supply chain supports the project. Samsung Display is tipped to provide the foldable screens, while TSMC will manufacture the core chips. Specialised partners, such as Shin Zu Shing, are involved in critical components, such as the hinge mechanism.

If current trial production proceeds smoothly, mass production could begin before the end of 2025. This timeline supports the rumoured late 2026 commercial launch.

As the potential release draws nearer, the industry expects a significant increase in leaks and component sightings. Foldable enthusiasts can anticipate more concrete details to emerge throughout 2025.
