In a troubling development within the Indian Army, a female Colonel stationed in Ambala reportedly attempted suicide following alleged harassment by a senior officer.
Indian media sources detailed the incident, highlighting the significant challenges faced by the officer.
The Colonel accused senior officials of the Western Command and HQ 9 Corps of subjecting her to mental torture and injustice, impacting her well-being.
In response to the incident, her former Army officer husband lodged a formal complaint at the Ambala police station against the involved military officers. He substantiated his complaint with a voice note from his wife, which detailed the harassment she endured.
The issue came to light shortly after the Deputy General Officer Commanding the 40th Artillery Division suspended the Colonel for 90 days on charges related to professional shortcomings.
In the wake of these events, the Indian Army issued a statement denying the allegations of harassment and the reported suicide attempt. They clarified that the Colonel had sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment at a hospital. Before this hospitalization, she was treated at the Psychiatric Command Hospital in Chandi Mandir for mental health issues.
