Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), explicitly prohibited his sons from visiting Pakistan or participating in any protests. Speaking to reporters from Adiala Jail on July 29, 2025, the former prime minister said, “My sons will not be coming to Pakistan. They will not be part of any protest, nor will they lead any protests.”
Khan’s latest statement contradicts his sister Aleema Khan’s claims that Suleman Khan (28) and Kasim Khan (26) would join the upcoming protest on August 5, demanding his release.
Khan’s sons recently met lawmakers in the United States to lobby for their father’s freedom. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan stated that the party does not maintain contact with them but affirmed their right to meet their father.

The 71-year-old cricketer-turned-politician has remained in prison since August 2023. Authorities charge him with multiple offences, including corruption and terrorism, following his removal from office through a no-confidence motion in April 2022. Khan will complete a two-year jail term on August 5, 2025, coinciding with a major anti-government protest organised by PTI demanding his release.
In June 2025, Kasim Khan spoke publicly about his father’s situation on X, stating, “My father has now spent over 700 days in prison, held in solitary confinement. He is denied access to his lawyers and is not allowed visits from his family. This is not justice.” This marked one of the first public statements by Khan’s sons regarding his imprisonment.

Following a high-level meeting in Lahore in July 2025, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf launched its latest anti-government campaign, culminating in the August 5 protest. The movement seeks Khan’s release and addresses stalled negotiations with the government over a judicial commission to investigate the May 9 riots and November 2024 protests in Islamabad.
Government officials warned that they will take strict action if Khan’s sons participate in the protests amid ongoing political tensions. Analysts believe the sons are unlikely to join, given the associated risks.
