RAWALPINDI, Punjab: A specialist team from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Shifa Eye Hospital conducted an Imran Khan medical checkup inside Adiala Jail on Sunday, jail authorities said.
The team examined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder’s blood pressure, cholesterol levels and eyesight using medical equipment brought to the prison, according to the jail.
PIMS doctor Arif Khan led the medical team, assisted by staff from the Adiala Jail hospital. The examination lasted about an hour before the doctors left the prison, according to the information provided.
The latest assessment follows several examinations this year, particularly related to Khan’s eyesight. Earlier medical reporting identified a right-eye condition diagnosed as central retinal vein occlusion, while specialist teams from PIMS and Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital have conducted follow-up assessments in prison.

The Supreme Court on August 18 ordered authorities to move Khan to Shifa International Hospital for examination and treatment by a multidisciplinary medical board. The order also allowed his personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, and his sister, Dr Uzma Khan, to remain involved in his medical care.
However, during the August 20-21 medical transfer, Khan was ultimately examined at PIMS rather than Shifa International Hospital. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the venue was changed because of security concerns; he later said doctors declared Khan medically fit and returned him to Adiala Jail.
Khan has remained incarcerated since August 2023. His family and PTI have repeatedly raised concerns about his medical care, while government and jail authorities have maintained that treatment and examinations are being provided.
