On August 18, 2025, the Supreme Court of Pakistan heard the bail petition of incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. The hearing, led by a three-member bench under Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, was adjourned until 10:30 AM on August 20 to allow thorough review of submitted documents.

Chief Justice Afridi noted that documents, primarily court judgments, were submitted by Imran Khan’s counsel, Salman Safdar, a day earlier. He stressed the need for careful examination, directing all parties to submit documents promptly and instructing the prosecution to review the defence’s filings. Afridi emphasised that the court’s findings would not influence other cases involving Khan, ensuring impartiality.

The bench, including Justices Shafi Siddiqui and Gul Hassan Aurangzeb, raised questions about issuing final observations in a bail case. The court issued a notice to the Punjab government and directed the prosecution to prepare arguments on specific legal issues. Both Khan’s legal team and opposing lawyers were asked to assist with these points at the next hearing.

Imran Khan, former prime minister and PTI leader, has faced multiple legal challenges since his ouster in April 2022. The bail petition relates to ongoing cases, with the Supreme Court taking a cautious approach to avoid impacting other proceedings. The adjournment reflects the court’s commitment to a fair and thorough process.

The hearing on August 20 will focus on legal arguments and document analysis, with both sides expected to present robust cases. The outcome could significantly impact Khan’s legal battles and PTI’s political standing, drawing attention from supporters and critics alike.
