Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh A.D. Khawaja has said that law enforcement agencies (LEAs) are very close to the killers of prominent Qawwal Amjad Sabri.

In a briefing to a special cabinet meeting on law and order chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at the Chief Minister House here on Monday, the IGP said that police and other agencies are working closely to solve Amjad Sabri murder case and would give results very soon. The meeting was attended by all the cabinet members, according to a handout issued here.

The IGP also briefed the cabinet about the kidnapping of Barrister Awais Shah, the son of Sindh High Court Chief Justice, through the maps of the route right from High Court to Super Market and then his kidnapping and movement of the car in which he was taken away.

A.D. Khawaja said that the police have conducted a number of raids and have arrested some suspects. The kidnappers were trying to misguide LEAs by switching on and switching off the cell phone of Barrister Awais Shah, he added.

“We still believe that he (Awais Shah) has been kept in Karachi and with the help of all the agencies and using the technology we would recover him safe and sound shortly,” the IG assured.

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said that the kidnapping of Barrister Awais Shah and killing of prominent Sufi singer Amjad Sabri are big challenges to work out. He stressed that “Now, we have to recover the barrister and arrest the killers of Amjad Sabri and have to block the future activities of terrorists.”

Qaim Ali Shah said that with the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies (LEA) the government restored peace in the city by crushing terrorists, extortionists, kidnappers and target killers.

“We have utilised all our resources, strengthened our forces (police and Rangers) and also encouraged our intelligence agencies through rewards, and I must appreciate that everyone has done a wonderful jobs. I must appreciate,” he said and added “we have to do more with new spirit and close coordination.”

Chief Minister taking some important decisions ordered the Chief Secretary to sit together with the IGP and start upgrading CCTV cameras all over the city and also install more where necessary.

“I want CCTV coverage of the entire city,” he said and added that Command and Control Centers must be responsive and keep an eagle eye instead of just send reports to the concerned authorities.

He directed the IGP to start recruitment of police. “I am authorising you to appoint constables and ASI on merit then refer them to SPSC, if necessary,” he said and added that “we have announced recruitment of 20,000 policemen in our budget but you have to expedite the process to cover shortfall.”

The chief minister also directed the Senior Minister for Finance to arrange funds so that courts and residences of judges being constructed in the Central Jail could be done on war footings.

“It is our responsibility to provide adequate security to the judges of Supreme Court, high court and ATC judges,” he said and added that they have given courageous decisions therefore terrorists have started harassing them by attacking them and their children.

He directed the IGP and chief secretary to work out security plan for the judges, their families and other important communities and people. “I would urge you to take the concerned chief justices into confidence while preparing their security plan,” he said.

The chief minister also directed the IGP to start producing necessary gadgets and equipment whatever he needed. “I would provide you funds,” he said.

The chief minister, in his concluding remarks, thanked the Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif for taking personal interest in restoring peace in Karachi.  (APP)
