HYDERABAD, Sindh: Hyderabad Independence Day preparations entered their final stage Thursday as authorities completed security, sanitation and decoration arrangements for Pakistan’s August 14 celebrations.
The district administration directed police to provide security and manage traffic during public events. Municipal and other departments were ordered to complete cleanup work around schools, Union Councils and public spaces.
Government offices will hold flag-hoisting and cake-cutting ceremonies. Schools were instructed to organise patriotic activities and speech competitions in Urdu, Sindhi and English.
National flags, lights and buntings decorated homes, markets and public buildings across the city. Illuminated sites included the Hyderabad Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Old Campus and Sindh Public Service Commission Secretariat, local reports said.

Markets displayed flags, badges, caps, bangles, hairbands and green-and-white clothing ahead of Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day.
Radio Pakistan Hyderabad is running special programmes from August 1 to 31, including documentaries, interviews, discussions and youth segments.
The station also produced “Pakistan Saan Pyaar Asaan Jo,” sung by Reshma Parveen, and “Jashn-e-Azadi Manayen,” performed by Yasir Ali Lateefi, according to an Associated Press of Pakistan report.
The Hyderabad SITE Association of Trade and Industry also held a commemorative event. Chairman Abdul Rahman Rajput urged citizens to support Pakistan’s development and stability.
National celebrations will include an Independence Night programme at Yaadgar-e-Fatah in Islamabad and flag-hoisting ceremonies at federal, provincial, divisional and district headquarters, Radio Pakistan said.
