On Tuesday, a sightseeing helicopter carrying foreign tourists crashed near Mount Everest, killing all six people on board. Authorities in Nepal have recovered the remains of all six individuals who tragically lost their lives. Among the deceased were five Mexican nationals. This incident marks the latest in a series of aviation disasters that have impacted the Himalayan country.
The exact cause of the crash near Likkhu, located northeast of Kathmandu, remains unknown, as stated by the civil aviation regulator. However, the government intends to establish a probe committee to investigate the incident thoroughly.
The helicopter involved in the accident was operated by Manang Air, a company that specializes in offering tourists breathtaking views of Nepal’s majestic peaks, including the renowned Mount Everest.
Among those on board were a Nepali pilot and five Mexican nationals, as confirmed by airport official Teknath Sitoula. Raju Neupane, a spokesperson for Manang Air, explained that the helicopter had taken off in favourable weather conditions, and it is currently uncertain what led to the tragic crash. A comprehensive investigation will be necessary to determine the cause.
Due to Nepal’s rugged and mountainous terrain, air accidents have unfortunately been recurring. Many airlines operate flights to small airports in remote hills or near cloud-covered peaks, making them inaccessible via road transportation.
