The Higher Education Commission has approved HEC dual-degree and joint-degree programmes for universities across Pakistan, allowing students to pursue expanded academic pathways, officials said.
According to HEC officials, the new dual-degree framework will allow students to enrol in two degree programmes simultaneously.
Officials said admission to dual programmes will not require students to remain within the same department or academic discipline.
The HEC Commission also approved joint-degree programmes, under which students may complete part of their studies at one university and the remaining period at another institution.
Officials said universities offering joint degrees must sign an HEC-approved memorandum of understanding before launching such a programme
The framework will also allow Pakistani universities to partner with foreign universities for joint-degree programmes, enabling students to obtain degrees through cross-institutional academic arrangements.
The commission approved the policy as part of efforts to expand academic opportunities and improve higher education standards in Pakistan.
