An anti-terrorism court (ATC) earlier yesterday sentenced a man to 10-year imprisonment for selling hate material in the city of Jehlum.
ATC Special Judge Rai Muhammad Ayub Marth convicted Sheikh Saifullah for spreading sectarian hatred and raising funds for terrorism after he was arrested selling hate material in Jehlum.
The judge granted five years jail for selling hate material and five more years for raising funds for terrorism.
The convict has to pay a Rs50,000 fine for each offence. Failure to do so will add two more months to his jail term.
According to available details, the Counterterrorism Department CTD arrested Saifullah from Mission Mohalla outside Akram Shaheed Park on May 22, 2015 while he was selling CDs containing hate speech. The CDs contained speeches by Maulvi Hassan Dogra, which have also been banned the Muttahida Ulema Board of Punjab.
The convict was on post-arrest bail, granted by the same court. He was arrested by the police after the ATC announced its verdict. The police later shifted Saifullah to Adiala jail.
