Harnai firing killed at least five people and injured three others in Shahrag, Balochistan, after unidentified gunmen opened fire on locals following a CNIC-checking dispute, police said.
Police said the armed men had set up a picket near Sheikh Musa Baba Chowk and were checking Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) of passersby.
An altercation broke out after some locals resisted the checking, according to police. The gunmen then opened indiscriminate fire on the group.

Four people died on the spot, police said. Another critically injured victim died while officials shifted him to Quetta for medical treatment.
Police identified the deceased as Zaman Shah, Zia-ul-Haq, Abdul Qahir, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leader Maulvi Zahid Shah and Ikramullah Shah.
The injured were identified as Nasir Shah, Mullah Samad and Saqib Shah, according to police.
Police said teams moved the bodies and wounded to Shahrag Hospital. Doctors gave initial treatment to the injured before referring them to Quetta.
Residents later set the Shahrag police station on fire after the incident, creating a tense situation in the area, police said. A heavy contingent of Harnai police reached the area and tried to bring the situation under control.
