WESTON: Florida authorities have identified Venezuelan singer Gus Ormo as the man found dead in a swimming pool at his home on October 16. Investigators are examining the circumstances of his death.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office announced the identification on Monday. Deputies and emergency crews had responded to a report of a possible drowning at the residence that morning. Authorities have described the circumstances as suspicious.
However, the cause and manner of death remain undetermined. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Gerdy St. Louis said the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office would make those findings.
Ormo, whose full name was Gustavo Enrique Ormo, worked as a singer, songwriter and pianist. Originally from Venezuela’s Zulia state, he developed a career spanning approximately two decades.
His music combined romantic ballads with piano arrangements. Writers including Pablo Neruda, Mario Benedetti and Jaime Sabines influenced his approach to lyrics.
Earlier this month, Ormo released “ÁGAPE”, a collection of six instrumental piano pieces.
The October 1 release placed his piano work at the centre of the project. Discussing the record, he said he wanted to help listeners reconnect with emotions that everyday routines can push aside. His recent performances also reflected his connection to Venezuela.
