Gas service in much of Karachi will be halted on Sunday due to a key infrastructure upgrade by the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).
To facilitate this crucial operation, SSGC plans a 24-hour suspension starting at 5:00 AM on July 28 and resuming simultaneously the following day. The outage will impact numerous areas, including all sectors of Orangi Town, North Nazimabad, FB Area, Surjani Town, North Karachi, Manghopir Town, Qasba Town, Gulberg, Buffer Zone, and the SITE Industrial Area, along with Baldia Town, Ittehad Town, Mauripur, Central Region’s Gulshan-e-Maymar, Ahsanabad, Janjal Goth, and SITE Super Highway.
During a ceremony on Thursday, SSGC Managing Director Imran Maniar launched the pipeline, which was anticipated to boost gas pressure across Karachi’s western region. The project, valued at Rs3,859 million, aims to enhance service by resolving low-pressure issues for industrial clients in that area.
The new pipeline is expected to segregate the low-pressure domestic and commercial consumers from high-pressure industrial users in the SITE and Hub Industrial Areas. Current demand from these industrial customers stands between 130-140 MMSCFD, with future demands projected to increase by 80-100 MMSCFD. This pipeline will supply approximately 269 MMSCFD upon completion, supporting the 16-inch diameter, 5-kilometer pipeline extending from SMS Surjani to Madinat-al-Hikmah.
