In a tragic incident on the M2 Motorway near Bhera, four family members, including three women, were found dead in a stationary car. At the same time, the driver was discovered in a semi-conscious state and promptly taken to the hospital for medical care.
The deceased have been identified as 6-year-old Aun Ali, 30-year-old Mehr, 60-year-old Romila, and 25-year-old Samar.
The incident occurred when Motorway Police received reports of a car parked unusually long near Bhalwan. Upon investigation, they found the vehicle with its engine still running and the occupants unresponsive. Rescue operations confirmed the death of four passengers, with the driver, identified as Umar Qasim, being the sole survivor in a critical condition.
Umar Qasim later recounted to the authorities that the family had made a brief stop to purchase juice and snacks as one of the women felt unwell. After resuming their drive, he too began to feel unwell, prompting him to pull over before losing consciousness. The family, residents of McLeod Road, Lahore, were en route from Lahore to Islamabad when the tragedy struck.
The cause of the mysterious deaths is still under investigation, with initial speculation by medical personnel suggesting possible food poisoning. Authorities from Phulrawan Police Station have launched a thorough investigation as legal proceedings commence.
Social media has seen an outpouring of grief and speculation regarding the incident, with journalist Khurram Iqbal and social media user Rashid Iqbal suggesting the consumption of potentially contaminated food as the cause of the fatalities. The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding the region’s food safety and quality control.
