Former Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi challenged his arrest in the Lahore High Court (LHC), citing it as violating LHC’s orders. The petition, submitted by his lawyer Amid Saeed Rawn, referenced the LHC’s directive preventing various agencies, including the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), from detaining Elahi without disclosing specific cases or investigations against him.
The petition claims that NAB’s inquiry against Elahi, initiated on June 9, 2023, contradicts the LHC’s July 13, 2023, order. It alleges political victimization against Elahi and mentions wrongful detention on July 15 despite bail grants and restraining orders. The petition points out discrepancies in the arrest dates, with the arrest occurring a day before the official detention order was released.
While in custody, Elahi was informed of another inquiry-turned-investigation on August 25. His counsel requests the court to prevent further undisclosed arrests and declare his recent detention invalid. Elahi had been taken into NAB custody on August 15 over alleged illegal contract awards during his tenure and has faced multiple arrests since the May 9 disturbances.
