The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has announced the formal indictment of Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed, former Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Authorities have charged Lt Gen Faiz Hameed with engaging in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act, and committing other serious offences.
As per the ISPR statement, the Field General Court Martial (FGCM) process against Lt Gen Hameed commenced on August 12, 2024, under the relevant provisions of the Pakistan Army Act.
In the press release, the ISPR stated, “The proceedings began with the formal arraignment of Lt Gen Faiz Hameed on various charges. These include engaging in detrimental political activities, breaches of the Official Secrets Act, misuse of authority, government resources, and causing wrongful loss to individuals.”
The Pakistan Army’s public relations wing reports that investigators are actively probing Lt. Gen. Hameed’s alleged involvement in actions that led to agitation and unrest. This scrutiny particularly focuses on his supposed role leading to the May 9, 2023 instability. Investigators also examine his connections with vested political interests that might have contributed to this unrest. Despite the gravity of these allegations, Lt. Gen. Hameed receives all legal rights the law prescribes.

In April, before the indictment, the Pakistan Army formed an inquiry committee to address allegations of power abuse by the former ISI chief. The apex court and the defence ministry directed establishing this committee, which specifically targets accusations of mismanagement concerning a housing society in Islamabad.
The case against Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed represents a significant moment in military accountability in Pakistan. It underlines the army’s commitment to enforcing stringent measures to maintain justice and integrity within its ranks.
